Our journey towards greener tourism hasn’t been about grand gestures or quick fixes. Instead, it’s been about making thoughtful, practical choices that fit who we are as a family-run hotel. We are working towards achieving the Green Tourism Bronze Award  which marks an important first step for us, recognising the everyday actions we’ve put in place to reduce our impact while maintaining the comfort and warmth our guests expect.

We focus on using energy and water responsibly throughout the hotel, from efficient lighting and heating controls to sensible housekeeping practices that avoid unnecessary waste. We actively reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible, and work hard to minimise single-use items, choosing more sustainable alternatives when we can.

In our kitchens, we aim to use ingredients thoughtfully, reducing food waste and supporting local suppliers wherever possible. This not only lowers food miles, but also allows us to showcase the quality of local produce and support the wider community around us.
Our team plays a vital role in our green journey. Staff are encouraged to share ideas, follow sustainable practices in their daily work, and help guests understand how small choices — like reusing towels or switching off lights — can make a real difference. We also provide information for guests on local walks, public transport and nearby attractions, helping them enjoy the area in a more sustainable way.
Most importantly, we see sustainability as an ongoing journey. The Bronze Award is not the finish line, but a solid foundation. We’re committed to reviewing our practices regularly, learning as we go, and building on what we’ve started — step by step, at a pace that’s realistic and meaningful for our business.
